Demonstrators are planning to gather in several parts of Mexico City on Thursday, September 17, to demand further support from the government to face the economic impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The protest is being organized by transport workers affiliated with the Transporters' Expanded Force (FAT). Protests are planned to start from 10:00 (local time) at ten locations around the city; however, organizers have stated that these locations will not be announced in advance. Other demonstrators also plan to hold a sit-in protest in the Centro Historico area.
A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the protest sites.
Those in Mexico City are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid all protests or demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
