At least four people were killed in an encounter between security forces and suspected militants in Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir region) on Thursday, September 17, including three suspects and a civilian woman who was killed in the cross-fire. At approximately 02:30 (local time) security forces launched a cordon and search operation following intelligence received of the presence of militants in the Firdousabad locality of Batamaloo in Srinagar. Media sources suggest that the security forces recovered arms and ammunition during the operation.
Further security operations and clashes between security forces and militants across Jammu and Kashmir territory are expected over the near term.
Those in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
