Event

Activists from the Fight for Change (LUCHA) and Filimbi movements have called for a demonstration in the capital Kinshasa for Wednesday, September 23. Participants will reportedly gather at Huilerie Roundabout at 10:00 (local time) before marching to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to demand the removal of the Rwandan ambassador, Vincent Karega. The activist demands that the ambassador leaves the country following controversial remarks he made on social media regarding the involvement of Rwandan nationals in a 1998 massacre in South Kivu province.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of protests. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Those in Kinshasa are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution.
