Militants killed two soldiers during clashes in North Waziristan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province) on Saturday, September 19. The militants fired on security forces as they conducted a cordon and search operation on a suspected militant hideout in North Waziristan's Spalga area, near Miranshah, and an exchange of fire ensued.
Similar militant attacks are possible in North Waziristan in the near term.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Al-Qai'da, Islamic State (IS) affiliates, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, the Afghan Taliban, and other Islamist militant groups continue to pose a threat in Pakistan's western border region despite continued military operations aimed at improving security in the area.
Those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and Pakistan more generally, are advised to remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activity to security forces.
Due to a high threat from terrorism, as well as kidnapping and sectarian violence, some Western governments advise their citizens to reconsider travel to some areas of Pakistan, including the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
