Multiple farmers' organizations have called for a nationwide shutdown strike to be held on Friday, September 25. The strike is to denounce three controversial agricultural ordinances introduced in June and to demand other concessions. Associated demonstrations took place across multiple states on September 21, including in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, during which various roadblocks were erected. Related protests on Friday are likely to be well attended.
A heightened security presence is also likely in the vicinity of the demonstrations, and clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Those in-country are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
