Heavy rainfall across parts of Karnataka state on Sunday, September 20, and Monday, September 21, left two people dead and two others missing after the rain triggered flash flooding. One person died in Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) district on Sunday after being washed away while cycling across an overflowing bridge. Another person drowned in a stream in Uttara Kannada district on Monday, and two others have not been found after being swept away by a river in Haveri district. Many rivers in the state are at dangerous levels following the rain, and a number of houses and crops have been damaged.
Further rainfall is expected on Tuesday, September 22, and Wednesday, September 23, which could lead to further flooding and associated disruptions to business and transport.
Those in Karnataka state are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
