Anti-government demonstrators have gathered in cities nationwide for a third consecutive night on Tuesday, September 22, to protest against President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi. Demonstrations have been reported in Cairo, Alexandria, Suez, and Giza, among other locations. There have been reports of security forces and demonstrators clashing, although no casualty figures have been released. Dozens of demonstrators have reportedly been detained.
Further associated demonstrations are possible in the immediate term. A heightened security presence and associated disruptions should be anticipated at all protests.
The recent protests, which began on Sunday, September 20, were reportedly called for by Egyptian entrepreneur Mohamed Ali, currently in exile in Spain. September 20 marks the first anniversary of similar anti-government protests in September 2019, which followed Mohamed's revelations about President Sisi's alleged corruption.
Those in Egypt are advised to avoid any protests as a precaution, monitor the situation, allow ample travel time, and obey instructions issued by local authorities.
