The Indonesian Farmers Union (SPI) has called for protests to occur nationwide on Thursday, September 24, to coincide with Farmers' Day, and to denounce state policies which do not benefit farmers. The SPI has not announced specific sites; however, they are likely to occur outside government offices in major urban centers, and outside provincial or regency offices. Previous demonstrations have attracted hundreds of thousands of participants and included a rally that occurred outside the State Palace in Jakarta.
Localized overland disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be expected around protest sites.
Those in Indonesia are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
