Officials at the Port of Calais (Pas-de-Calais department) have suspended operations due to an ongoing strike by deputy port officers on Thursday, September 24, over demands for pay equivalent to that of workers at other ports in France. Ferry services between Calais and Dover (UK) have been cancelled for the duration of the strike and some services have been rerouted to depart from Dunkirk. Freight shipping services have also been suspended. The strike is scheduled to end at 08:00 (local time) on Friday, September 25, however, further industrial action may be organized.
Continued disruptions at the Port of Calais are likely in the near term as the strike continues.
Those traveling via Calais are advised to anticipate continued disruption to ferry travel during the strike and should account for this in their travel itineraries, making alternative arrangements where possible.
