The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) announced in the early hours of Monday, September 28, that it had called off a planned nationwide general strike following last-minute talks with government representatives. The strike, which had been scheduled to begin on Monday, was reportedly suspended after the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) came to an agreement with government representatives over the reform of fuel subsidies and a workers' financial support package.

Although not all groups who intended to join the strike were represented at the overnight meetings, most are expected to follow the NLC's lead and suspend strike action. However, there remains a realistic possibility of smaller-scale industrial action and associated protests at some facilities in the country's major urban centers, including Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

A heightened police presence and localized disruptions are likely in the vicinity of any strike-related gatherings on Monday.

Those in Nigeria are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all demonstrations and gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
