Tear gas deployed on demonstrators during pro-abortion rally in Mexico City on September 28; avoid all demonstrations as a precaution

Mexico City police have deployed tear gas to clear pro-abortion demonstrators from marching from the Monument to the Revolution to the Zocalo on Monday, September 28. The participants gathered in commemoration of International Safe Abortion Day and to demand that legislators decriminalize abortions in the country. Multiple arrests have been made after some of the participants threw Molotov cocktails at police.   

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transport are to be expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations. Clashes between security forces and protesters are possible.  


Those in the affected area of Mexico City are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid all protests or demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
