Nationwide anti-government protests scheduled for October 2; avoid all demonstrations

Nationwide anti-government protests are scheduled to take place throughout urban centers of Egypt on Friday, October 2. Among the larger of the demonstrations is expected to take place at Tahrir Square in Cairo. Other sporadic rallies should be expected.

Previous related demonstrations in Cairo, Alexandria, and Aswan, have resulted in the use of tear gas, water cannons, the burning of tires, and the vandalizing of police vehicles.

A heightened security presence and associated disruptions to transportation and business are likely during the demonstrations. 


Those in Egypt are advised to monitor developments, avoid protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
