Members of the ruling party the Zimbabwean African National Union - Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) Youth League demonstrated in Harare on Thursday, October 1, after one of their members was killed and nine others wounded after they were shot by security guards. The shooting incident took place at a housing scheme in Ushewokunze suburb, Harare South. The youths were returning from Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (HRE) when they discovered one of their members had been arrested by security guards at the housing project. The shooting occurred as the youths went to the project developer's office to find out why the individual had been arrested. Security guards claimed the youths were trespassing and opened fire on them. Following the incident, youth league members demonstrated outside the office to demand justice for their killed and wounded comrades. Police officials have confirmed that two security guards have been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Further unrest over the issue is possible in Harare over the near term.
