The US embassy in Port-au-Prince has issued a security alert stating that there are reports of an ongoing violent protest in the downtown area of Port-au-Prince near Champs de Mars and Avenue Christophe on Monday, October 5. There are also reports of a protest taking place outside the Ministry of Justice on Ave Charles Sumner. Protesters are reportedly burning tires and throwing projectiles. Police have been deployed to the scene of the unrest. The motive for the protests has not been indicated.

A heightened security presence and localized travel disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of the event.
