Hundreds of people gathered in front of Jam Hospital in Tehran on Thursday, October 8, following the death of Iranian musician Muhammad Reza Shajarian. Reports indicate that those who had gathered to commemorate the musician began to protest against the government. Media sources suggest that authorities disrupted internet services from 19:00 (local time) on Thursday as the protests erupted. Unverified sources also indicate that a number of protesters have been arrested by security forces.

Further associated demonstrations are possible in Tehran and other urban cities in the near term. Localized disruption and further disruptions to internet services are also possible. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
