Protesters have gathered for the second consecutive night in Minneapolis (Minnesota) on Thursday, October 8, in opposition to the bond release of a former police officer involved in the killing of George Floyd. Demonstrators gathered outside of the Hennepin County Government Center and along University Avenue in neighboring St. Paul. Demonstrations held outside of the police 5th Precinct on Wednesday, October 7, resulted in the arrests of 51 people.
Further protests are possible in the area in the near term.
Protests began worldwide after George Floyd died while being arrested by Minneapolis police officers on May 25. The four arresting police officers were subsequently fired and detained, and one has since been charged with second-degree murder. Protests spread to several cities across the US, with solidarity protests taking place throughout the world.
Those in Minneapolis are advised to monitor developments, avoid protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
