Two die as freight trains collide in in Kalecik district (Ankara province) on October 10; disruptions to rail services expected over the near term

Two drivers were killed and two mechanics were injured after two freight trains collided in Kalecik district (Ankara province) on Saturday, October 10. The collision occurred on the Kalecik-Kinkkale line. Both trains were reportedly empty at the time of the collision, which occurred near Kalecik station at around 06:30 (local time). Several carriages derailed as a result of the collision. Emergency services were deployed to the scene and an investigation has been launched into how the incident occurred.

Residual disruption to rail services is expected in the area of the coming hours.


Those in Ankara province and surrounding areas are advised to monitor developments and should anticipate localized disruptions in the area, particularly to rail services.
