Rival protests clash in Dublin to protest COVID-19 restrictions on October 10; further protests possible

Demonstrators protesting restrictions introduced due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic clashed with counter-protesters in Dublin on Saturday, October 10. Protesters affiliated with the National party gathered in the vicinity of Leinster House from 13:00 (local time). A counter-demonstration of some 100 people arrived from Molesworth Street and attempted to break through police crowd control barriers on Kildare Street and police arrested two people during subsequent scuffles between the two groups. The demonstration dispersed at 15:00 whilst the counter-demonstration continued.

Further demonstrations on the issue, along with disruptions to overland travel, are possible in the near term.
