Collision between bus and train kills at least 17 and injures dozens more in Chachoengsao province on October 11; disruptions expected over the near term

At least 17 people have been killed and dozens more injured after a bus collided with a train in Chachoengsao province on Sunday morning, October 11. The collision occurred near Khlong Kwaeng Klan railway station at around 08:00 (local time). The bus passengers were traveling to a temple for a ceremony to mark the end of Buddhist Lent. Emergency services attended the scene and a crane had to be deployed to clear the overturned bus from the tracks. The cause of the collision has not been confirmed and an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Residual disruption to rail services is expected in the area over the coming hours as response, recovery, and investigation operations take place.


Those in Chachoengsao province and surrounding areas are advised to monitor developments and should anticipate localized disruptions in the area, particularly to rail services.
