A mob of around forty people armed with metal bars and setting off fireworks attempted to storm a police station in the Paris suburb of Champigny-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne department; Ile-de-France region) on Saturday night, October 10. The group were unable to gain access to the police station; however, a window was smashed and cars damaged. No injuries or arrests have been reported. The motive for the assault on the station is not immediately clear, although the mayor stated that tension between police and residents has been high over the past few days and many locals harbor anti-police sentiments.
Further unrest is possible in the area in the coming days and a heightened security presence is likely to be deployed following the incident.
Those in Paris are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant in case of further unrest, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
