Three socialist organizations plan to hold nationwide protests on Tuesday, October 13. Members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), and the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) plan to demonstrate at as yet unspecified locations across India. The organizations claim that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has marginalized certain sections of society, including women and Dalits, and this has led to an increase in violence against these groups. Many of the protests are expected to be well attended.
A heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transport are expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations.
Those in India are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
