At least twelve people have been confirmed dead by Indian emergency management authorities as of Wednesday, October 14, following days of heavy rainfall across large areas of the state and wider regions. At least nine people were killed in Hyderabad when water-saturated ground around a wall caused it to tip and fall on the victims. At least three others were killed in separate incidents. Many areas of Hyderabad have received over 10in (26cm) of rainfall over the previous 24-hours, causing flooded roads and travel disruptions. Authorities declared Tuesday a holiday and encouraged residents to stay home.
Further rainfall is expected over the coming days, with continued risks of flooding and landslides. A disruption to business, transportation, and utilities is likely while rains continue.
Those in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
