Indefinite protests scheduled to be held in multiple urban centers from October 15; disruptions likely in near term

Indefinite protests are scheduled to take place in multiple urban centers across Nigeria from Thursday, October 15. The demonstrations have been called by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) to denounce insecurity in the northern and central regions. The demonstrations are expected to take place in the capital Abuja as well as the states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.

The CNG has called for peaceful gatherings, although demonstrations may be forcibly dispersed by security forces.

A heightened security presence and localized travel disruptions are likely in the near term.
