Event

Internet service providers in Dhaka have announced a daily 10:00 to 13:00 (local time) outage of internet and data services from Sunday, October 18, in protest against a decision by the Dhaka City Corporations requiring all cables to be run underground. The protest is expected to continue until an agreement is reached. The Dhaka City Corporations have begun removing overhead wiring in the city, resulting in internet and TV outages. Users are expected to revert to cellular services for the period of the outages, which could lead to an overload and the failure of that service as well.

A disruption to telecommunications services should be anticipated during the course of the protest.

Advice

Those in Dhaka are advised to monitor developments regarding internet service disruptions and should review communications and business continuity plans in light of the outages.
