Thailand News Alert

Authorities in Nakhon Ratchasima province evacuate Ban Na Klang village due to threat of flooding on October 17; monitor weather reports and follow authority directives

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/18/2020, 12:00 AM until 10/21/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Bangkok). COUNTRY/REGION Thailand

Authorities in Nakhon Ratchasima province evacuated residents in Ban Na Klang village on Saturday, October 17, after heavy rain led to the Lam Phra Ploeng Dam discharging large volumes of water, which threatened to submerge the village. The persistent rain is linked to the remnants of Tropical Storm Nangka and has caused flooding in many areas, including Pak Thing Chai and Muang districts. The flooding has caused damage to property and crops and led to a number of communities being isolated due to impassable roads.

Further heavy rain is forecast in the coming days and could lead to further flood and associated disruptions to transport, businesses, and utilities.

Those in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
