Internet service providers in Dhaka have announced that the daily outage of internet and cable television services that was going to take place nationwide between 10:00 and 13:00 (local time) from Sunday, October 18, has been rescheduled to commence on Sunday, October 25. The action is being organized by the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) in protest against a decision by the Dhaka City Corporations to have all cables to be run underground without notifying ISPAB and COAB. The Dhaka City Corporations had been removing overhead wiring in the city, resulting in internet and TV outages. ISPAB and COAB declared that the protest action will go ahead on Sunday if ongoing talks with officials fail, or the Dhaka City Corporations continues to remove overhead cables.
A disruption to telecommunications services should be anticipated nationwide during the course of the protest action.
Those in Bangladesh are advised to monitor developments regarding internet service disruptions and should review communications and business continuity plans in light of the outages.
