Thailand: Local authorities close Tak province border crossing due to COVID-19 until October 25

Thailand News Alert

Provincial authorities in Tak province order border crossing to close and cross-border trade to halt until October 25 due to COVID-19 cases; follow official instructions

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/19/2020, 12:00 AM until 10/25/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Bangkok). COUNTRY/REGION Tak province

Local authorities ordered its shared border with Myanmar's Myawaddy to close which included the temporary suspension to all movement of goods across the border from Saturday, October 17, until Saturday, October 25, in an attempt to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The decision from Tak governor, Pongrat Piromrat, comes after six truck drivers and migrant workers from Myanmar tested positive for COVID-19 in Mae Sot district of the province over the last two weeks. The border shutdown is one of a number of stricter COVID-19 prevention measures imposed on the border district. Media sources suggest that the Thung Thong and Madina Mosque communities have been placed under 24-hour surveillance by local security who will be conducting temperature checks and screening measures to all those entering and exiting the area. Some residents may be required to quarantine. The immigration checkpoint in Myanmar's Myawaddy has also closed.

Further measures may be introduced at short notice in the area by local authorities.

Those in the area are advised to monitor the situation for developments and heed all official instructions by local authorities.
