Emerging reports of blast at major junction in Mogadishu on October 20; avoid the area and follow authority directives

Emerging reports indicate that an explosion has occurred in the vicinity of KM4 Junction in Mogadishu on Tuesday, October 20. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) and was targeting the Director-General of Immigration and Naturalization Directorate, Mohamad Adan Kofi. At least two people have been reported killed in the explosion, however the Director-General is believed to have escaped without injury. No group has currently claimed responsibility for the attack.

Localized disruptions are likely in the area in the near term due to ongoing security response.  


Those in Mogadishu are advised to avoid the KM4 Junction area in the immediate term, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
