Nationwide indefinite transport strike scheduled from October 22; disruption likely

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/21/2020, 12:00 AM until 11/11/2020, 11:59 PM (Africa/Brazzaville). COUNTRY/REGION Republic of the Congo

A nationwide indefinite transport strike is scheduled to take place throughout urban centers of Congo from Thursday, October 22. The event is being held to protest against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) measures that currently limit the capacity of people able to take transportation. Private taxi drivers are also expected to participate in the strike. Associated protests are to be expected. A heightened demand for alternative transportation should be anticipated during the industrial action.

A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the protest site.

Those in Congo are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
