Nationwide protests scheduled throughout urban centers for October 23; avoid all demonstrations

Nationwide protests are scheduled to take place throughout urban centers of Bangladesh on Friday, October 23. The demonstrations have been organized by the Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) group and are being held over various issues, including a rise in sexual assault cases in the country. JeI party offices and mosques are expected to be protest flashpoints.

The demonstrations are expected to be well-attended. A heightened security presence and associated transport and business disruptions are to be expected near any protest sites. Scuffles may occur between protesters and the police.
