Event

A fatal attack by several unidentified militants on a police recruitment center in Khost (Khost province) has ended as of 16:13 (local time) on Tuesday, October 27, after ten hours of clashes between militants and security forces. Reportedly, a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) blast initiated the attack, which was then followed by gunfire. Two other explosive-laden vehicles reportedly failed to detonate. Casualty figures vary; however, sources have suggested that at least ten militants were killed in the attack as well as five security forces members. Dozens of others were wounded during the clashes, including civilians. Responsibility for the attack was not immediately claimed.

Localized disruptions are likely in the area in the near term. Those in Khost should be mindful of the possibility of further attacks.
