California authorities expanded evacuation orders to almost 100,000 residents in and around Irvine, (Orange County) California on Wednesday, October 28, as the nearby Silverado Fire has spread to more than 12,000 acres (4,856 hectares). More than 750 Orange County Fire Authority personnel have been deployed to tackle the blaze from both land and air. No structures have yet been destroyed, although more than 70,000 are threatened in Irvine and 8,000 in Lake Forest. Two firefighters have reportedly been severely injured while working the fire and remain in an Orange County hospital.
Further spread of the fire and additional evacuations are possible in the near term. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
Those in the vicinity of the fires are advised to monitor the situation, avoid the area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
