Indian police report that three officials of the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) were killed in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, October 29. The attack took place in the village of Y.K. Pora, in the southern Kulgam district. Security forces are continuing their investigations into the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of the incident, with associated disruptions to business and transportation. Further militant attacks are likely in Jammu and Kashmir over the near to medium term.

Those in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.

Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
