Event

Authorities in Philadelphia have lifted a 21:00 to 06:00 (local time) curfew in the city on Saturday, October 31, despite continued protests over the police shooting of a black man on Monday, October 26. Hundreds of peaceful protesters marched through western Philadelphia during the day, gathering in Malcolm X park, where speeches and activities took place. While the curfew has been lifted, authorities have requested that residents remain at home overnight unless movement is absolutely necessary.

Mass looting, fires, and clashes between security forces and protesters have been reported over the course of the protests, with police arresting 225 demonstrators and seeing 60 officers injured since Monday. One police officer remains hospitalized. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced the deployment of the National Guard in the city earlier in the week, along with additional police reinforcements.

A heightened police presence and transportation disruptions are expected in the city, and further clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out overnight.

Advice

Those in Philadelphia are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate localized disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
