Indian security forces killed a senior militant in a security operation in Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on Sunday, November 1. According to a local police official, Saiful Islam Mir, believed to be the chief of the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group since May, has been fatally shot by security forces.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of the incident. Further operations by security forces are likely in Jammu and Kashmir over the near to medium term.

Those in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments. Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
