Russia: Far-right activists plan march in Moscow November 4

Russia News Alert

Far-right activists plan to stage demonstration in Moscow on November 4; heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions likely

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/3/2020, 11:00 PM until 11/5/2020, 10:59 PM (Europe/Moscow). COUNTRY/REGION Moscow

Event

Far-right groups plan to stage a demonstration entitled "Russian March" in Moscow on November 4. The march is due to begin around 14:00 (local time) at Tsvetnoy Bulvar Metro station and proceed to the public office of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia on Sadovaya-Sukharevskaya Street. The demonstration is going ahead despite repeated refusals from city authorities to grant permission for the event to go ahead, citing current measures banning large gatherings due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The march is being held to call for the resignation of President Vladimir Putin and the release of prisoners under his hate crime legislation.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transport are likely in the vicinity of the march. Security forces may forcibly disperse the gathering due to its unauthorized nature.

Advice

Those in Moscow are advised to monitor the situation, avoid large gatherings as a precaution, and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
