Afghanistan News Alert

PPM protest scheduled in Kabul for November 11; disruption likely

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/7/2020, 12:00 AM until 11/11/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kabul). COUNTRY/REGION Kabul

A protest is scheduled to take place in Kabul on Wednesday, November 11. Demonstrators affiliated with the People's Peace Movement (PPM) have organized the protest to denounce the terrorist attack that took place at Kabul University on November 2. The demonstration is set to take place outside the US embassy in Kabul where participants will stage a sit-in. Additionally, participants of the demonstrations are calling for a ceasefire between the government and the Taliban.

Previous related demonstrations on Friday, November 6, led to the arrest of some PPM supporters and clashes between security forces and protesters.

Additional security force personnel, road closures, and access restrictions should be anticipated in the vicinity of the events over the coming days.

Those in Kabul are advised to monitor developments regarding the protests, avoid all protests and political gatherings due to the risk of disruptions and unrest, and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
