Car bomb attack kills four policemen near Faryab’s Almar district on November 9; further attacks likely over near term

A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attack targeted the police headquarters of Almar district (Faryab province) on Monday evening, November 9, killing four policemen and wounding 20 others, including eight civilians. The explosion was followed by a gunfight which reportedly continued until Tuesday morning, November 10. Shops and houses were damaged in the assault, and the district police chief is reportedly among the wounded. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

A heightened security presence is likely in the area in the near term. Further attacks are also likely in Faryab and across Afghanistan over the medium term.
