Afghan officials announced on Saturday, November 14, that the militant behind the November 2 Kabul University attack had been captured. It is unclear where the militant, known as Adil, was captured. The attack, which killed 22 people and wounded 27 others, was initially blamed on the Taliban but the Islamic State later claimed responsibility. Adil reportedly revealed that he had received the weapons used from the Haqqani network, an offshoot of the Taliban.
The attack came days after an Islamic State-claimed bombing attack near an educational center in western Kabul.
Further attacks are likely in Kabul over the near to medium term.
The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
