A grenade attack injured 12 civilians in the Kakapora area of Pulwama district (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on Wednesday, November 18. Reports suggest that unidentified assailants had targeted a police patrol; however, the device missed and exploded on a roadside. Additional security forces subsequently deployed to the area in order to conduct an operation to apprehend the attackers.
A heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of the incident, with associated disruptions to business and transportation. Further militant attacks are likely in Jammu and Kashmir over the near to medium term.
Those in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
