Protesters stage sit-in gathering to denounce COVID-19 restrictions in Beirut on November 18; further protests possible

Protesters from civic right groups staged a sit-in demonstration on Wednesday, November 18, outside of the Ministry of Interior in Beirut to denounce restrictions introduced by the Lebanese government due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Although security forces were deployed to the vicinity of the Ministry to prevent the demonstrators from forcefully entering the premises, the gathering remained peaceful in nature.

Further protests regarding the issue are possible in Beirut in the near term.


Those in Beirut are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
