Protest planned in central Taipei on November 22; avoid protests as a precaution

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/19/2020, 12:00 AM until 11/23/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Taipei). COUNTRY/REGION Taipei

Members of the opposition Nationalist Party (KMT) have called for a protest in central Taipei on Sunday, November 22. The protesters plan to gather initially at 12:30 (local time) at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall and then gather at the intersection of Gongyuan Street and Ketagalan Boulevard at 13:30 and march to the Democratic People's Party's (DPP) Central Headquarters via a route passing by the Legislative Yuan and the Executive Yuan. The event is expected to be well attended.

Protesters will gather to denounce the government's plans to import meat containing ractopamine from the US due to the perceived negative repercussions for the country's farmers and the risk to public health.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are possible in the vicinity of all demonstrations, and clashes cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Taiwan are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
