Afghan security forces target dozens of Taliban militants in Faryab province on November 19; further attacks and security operations likely in the near term

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) reported that at least 21 Taliban militants were killed and a further 24 others were wounded during security operations in Faryab province on Thursday, November 19. Unconfirmed media sources indicate that Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) conducted an airstrike in Qaisar district which killed 15 Taliban militants and wounded 19 others. A further six Taliban insurgents were killed and five others wounded during a separate clash in Qaramqul district. There were no immediate reports of ANDSF casualties. The MoD also stated that two hideouts and a large amount of ammunition and weapons were destroyed in Qaisar district.

Further security operations and counter-attacks by militants are likely throughout Afghanistan in the medium term.


Those in Faryab province are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant for possible militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
