Reports of explosion damaging an oil tanker off Al-Shuqaiq near Yemen border in the Red Sea on November 25; monitor developments

Emerging media reports indicate that a mine in the Red Sea off Al-Shuqaiq (Jizan province) near Yemen border exploded and damaged an oil tanker on Wednesday, November 25. The blast occurred early Wednesday morning (local time) and struck a Maltese-flagged, Greek-managed oil tanker. Reports indicate that the vessel was struck about 1m (3.2ft) above the waterline and suffered a breach. The crew has been confirmed safe with no reports of injuries.

Saudi authorities are yet to comment on the incident. 


Those undertaking maritime operations in the region are advised to remain vigilant while aboard vessels, monitor developments to the regional security environment, and report all incidents to the nearest authorities.
