Cross-border clashes result in deaths of two Indian soldiers in Rajouri district (Jammu and Kashmir) on November 27; further fighting possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/27/2020, 12:00 AM until 11/29/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kolkata). COUNTRY/REGION India

Event

At least two Indian soldiers were killed during cross-border clashes which occurred on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district (Jammu and Kashmir) on Friday, November 27. Indian officials claimed that Pakistani troops fired on Indian forces with mortars and small arms in the vicinity of Sunderbani, prompting retaliatory fire. The incident comes following the death of an Indian officer during alleged cross-border firing in Rajouri district on Thursday, November 26. The Pakistan government has not commented on the incident; however, both sides routinely blame the other for initiating cross-border exchanges.

Further exchanges of artillery and small arms fire are likely along with the Jammu and Kashmir line of control in the medium term.

Advice

Those in the Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, avoid areas with active clashes or security operations, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.

Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the line of control, due to the significant risk of violence.
