Event

The Al Shabaab militant group claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing attack at Gelato Divino in the capital Mogadishu on Friday, November 27. At least seven people were killed, including the bomber, and several more were injured.

The blast occurred hours after US acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller made an unannounced visit to the capital on Friday; however, it is not clear if the bombing was linked to his visit.

Security and clean-up operations are likely in the vicinity of the incident in the near term, with an associated risk of localized disruptions. Further attacks in Somalia are to be anticipated in the medium term.

Advice

Those in Mogadishu are advised to avoid the abovementioned area in the immediate term, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
