Spain News Alert

Healthcare workers protest in Madrid on November 29; avoid all demonstrations as a precaution

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/29/2020, 12:00 AM until 11/30/2020, 11:59 PM (Europe/Madrid). COUNTRY/REGION Madrid

Healthcare workers in Madrid took to the streets on Sunday, November 29, in protest against recent cuts to services in Madrid and other areas of Spain amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The group, numbering some 4000-strong, marched through the capital from Neptune Plaza to the Colón Plaza demanding an end to segregation between private and public healthcare. As a response, the conservative Madrid regional government has denied cutting health services. The protest was largely peaceful in nature with no reports of violence or arrests.

Further associated demonstrations are possible in the near term. A heightened security presence and localized disruptions in the vicinity of rallies should be anticipated.

Those in Madrid are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution, monitor developments, anticipate associated disruptions, and heed official instructions issued by local authorities.
