Protest reported on N3 highway near Ladysmith (KwaZulu-Natal province) on December 1; transport disruption likely

Protesting truck drivers have reportedly blocked the N3 highway near the Tugela Toll Plaza between Pietermaritzburg and Harrismith, KwaZulu-Natal Province, Dec. 2. Media reports show traffic has backed up along the highway in the affected area.

Police have almost certainly deployed to monitor the protest and reopen the highway. Heightened security will remain in place for the duration of the unrest. Clashes are possible if protests continue or if protesters ignore police orders to disperse. Transport disruptions could persist in the coming hours and may stretch into the evening.
