Lebanon: Activists to protest outside Central Bank of Lebanon in Beirut Dec. 3

Lebanon News Alert

Activists to protest outside Central Bank of Lebanon in Beirut from 1100 Dec. 3. Increased security likely

TIMEFRAME expected from 12/3/2020, 12:00 AM until 12/3/2020, 11:59 PM (Asia/Beirut). COUNTRY/REGION Beirut

Event

Members of the Lebanese Association for Parents of Students in Foreign Universities plan to protest outside the Central Bank of Lebanon in Beirut, from 1100 Dec. 3, against the bank's delayed application of the Student Dollar law, which allows transfers of up to USD 10,000 to students overseas at a lower exchange rate. Protesters claim that many students abroad are experiencing financial difficulties as the bank has blocked their transfers.

Increased security measures, as well as localized transport disruptions, are likely near the protest site. Clashes between security personnel and protesters may materialize if demonstrators refuse orders to disperse or are overly disruptive.

Advice

Advice Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling through the affected area Dec. 3.
