The Awami Workers’ Party plans to march in Karachi Dec. 5. The purpose of the action is to protest several issues, including inflation, abductions of individuals by authorities, and legislation awarding the federal government limited rights over islands owned by provincial governments. Participants will gather at Regal Chowk at 1500 before marching to Fawara Chowk. Demonstrators will likely march along Barnes Street and Nishtar Road or along Aga Khan III and Murad Khan roads. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw; however, participation may be affected by restrictions in force due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which prohibit gatherings of more than 300 people.
Security personnel will likely monitor the procession as a precaution. Clashes between police and protesters are possible, especially if officers forcibly attempt to disperse demonstrators. Localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route. Security personnel may divert traffic from the area.
Avoid the demonstration and nearby areas along the march route due to possible clashes. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately. Heed the instructions of local security personnel. Allow additional to reach nearby destinations.
